Dogs (Emily Gravett)

Big dogs, small dogs, noisy dogs and quiet dogs fill Emily Gravett's playful celebration of canine variety. The simple words and expressive pictures invite children to compare what they see, choosing favourites and noticing that different animals have different characters. An affectionate twist gives the book an extra smile, making it enjoyable for repeated shared reading as well as early naming and describing.

Age suitability and learning: Baby & toddler (0-2), Preschool (3-5). The illustrated story suits shared reading with younger children and more independent exploration as reading grows. Following events encourages prediction, sequencing and vocabulary; discussing the characters gives children practice recognising feelings and considering other perspectives.
