Elmer And The Hippos

Hippos move into the elephants' bathing place because their own river has dried up, and not everyone welcomes the newcomers. Elmer decides to look for a solution rather than simply complain. The colourful adventure turns a practical jungle problem into a story about sharing resources, understanding someone else's needs and working together when a change affects more than one group.

Age suitability and learning: Preschool (3-5), Primary (6-8). The illustrated story suits shared reading with younger children and more independent exploration as reading grows. Following events encourages prediction, sequencing and vocabulary; discussing the characters gives children practice recognising feelings and considering other perspectives.
