Fireborn Twelve And The Frozen Forest By Aisling Fowlet

Twelve has given up her name to train as a monster fighter, carrying a painful past and a fierce desire for revenge. When a child is taken from the Hunting Lodge, a rescue mission sends her into a dangerous frozen world. Aisling Fowler's fantasy combines dramatic action with grief and changing loyalties, following a young heroine who discovers that protecting others may ask something different of her than anger alone.

Age suitability and learning: Older children (9-12). The longer narrative suits children ready to sustain attention across a developing story, whether reading independently or sharing it aloud. Following characters and events supports comprehension, vocabulary and reading stamina; discussing motives, settings and choices encourages inference, empathy and imaginative thinking.
