Henry V

A young king must prove that he can lead his country as England goes to war with France. Henry's courage is tested alongside the loyalty of those who follow him, with the battle of Agincourt at the centre of the story. This accessible Shakespeare retelling introduces a sweeping historical drama and invites readers to think about leadership, responsibility and conflict.

Age suitability and learning: Primary (6-8), Older children (9-12). The adapted prose offers primary and older children a manageable introduction to Shakespeare, with adult discussion useful for the darker events and historical attitudes. Following the plot supports comprehension and inference, while comparing characters' motives develops discussion of choices, consequences and different viewpoints.
