How To Hide A Lion From Grandma

Iris must hide her friendly lion when Grandma comes to stay, because explaining that he lives with her may be difficult. Keeping such a large secret is a challenge, but Grandma may have a surprise of her own. Helen Stephens's playful picture book brings warm humour to a story about assumptions and unexpected friendships, giving children plenty to spot in the pictures as the hiding becomes increasingly inventive.

Age suitability and learning: Preschool (3-5), Primary (6-8). The illustrated story suits shared reading with younger children and more independent exploration as reading grows. Following events encourages prediction, sequencing and vocabulary; discussing the characters gives children practice recognising feelings and considering other perspectives.
