How To Train Your Dragon Cressida Cowell Book 1

Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III is expected to become a fearsome Viking, but shouting and swaggering have never been his strengths. Training the small, stubborn dragon Toothless seems an especially unpromising way to prove himself. This first adventure introduces Cressida Cowell's wonderfully unruly Viking world, where listening, thinking differently and refusing to give up may matter much more than being the loudest person in the tribe.

Age suitability and learning: Primary (6-8), Older children (9-12). The longer narrative suits children ready to sustain attention across a developing story, whether reading independently or sharing it aloud. Following characters and events supports comprehension, vocabulary and reading stamina; discussing motives, settings and choices encourages inference, empathy and imaginative thinking.
