Michael Morpurgo Toto

Follow the journey through Oz from Toto's point of view, giving Dorothy's famous adventure a new and affectionate narrator. The little dog sees the strange landscapes, unexpected companions and dangers of the journey with his own loyalties and observations. Michael Morpurgo's retelling brings warmth and humour to a familiar classic, inviting readers to notice how a different perspective can change the way a story feels.

Age suitability and learning: Primary (6-8), Older children (9-12). The longer narrative suits children ready to sustain attention across a developing story, whether reading independently or sharing it aloud. Following characters and events supports comprehension, vocabulary and reading stamina; discussing motives, settings and choices encourages inference, empathy and imaginative thinking.
