Romeo And Juliet

Romeo and Juliet fall in love despite belonging to families locked in a bitter feud. Their hope for a future together clashes with secrecy, anger and disastrous misunderstandings, leading to Shakespeare's famous tragic ending. This children's retelling offers an accessible introduction to the play and gives readers a starting point for discussing family conflict, choices and the difference between intention and outcome.

Age suitability and learning: Primary (6-8), Older children (9-12). The adapted prose offers primary and older children a manageable introduction to Shakespeare, with adult discussion useful for the darker events and historical attitudes. Following the plot supports comprehension and inference, while comparing characters' motives develops discussion of choices, consequences and different viewpoints.
