The Detective Dog

Nell the dog has an extraordinary nose and a particular love of books, so the disappearance of her school's collection becomes a mystery she cannot ignore. Her investigation follows a trail towards an unexpected discovery. Julia Donaldson's lively rhyme combines the satisfaction of solving a puzzle with an affectionate celebration of stories, libraries and the opportunities that reading can bring.

Age suitability and learning: Preschool (3-5), Primary (6-8). Rhythm and repeated language help younger listeners join in, while primary readers can explore the words and pictures more closely. Reading aloud supports listening, sound awareness and expressive speech; following the story encourages recall and talking about what happens next.
