The Story Orchestra Peter And The Wolf

Peter ventures beyond the garden gate and finds himself in an adventure involving a bird, a duck, a cat and a dangerous wolf. This Story Orchestra retelling pairs the illustrated tale with extracts from Prokofiev's music, introducing the way different instruments can represent characters. The combination creates an engaging shared read full of anticipation, with the sounds helping children follow the unfolding events and notice how music contributes to the drama.

Age suitability and learning: Preschool (3-5), Primary (6-8). The combination of story, illustration and music suits shared reading and children beginning to listen more closely to composed music. Following events supports comprehension and vocabulary; noticing how the musical passages relate to the scenes encourages attentive listening, imagination and awareness of mood.
